Programme profile
An aeronautical engineer designs and constructs aircraft and aircraft components. These design activities are at the heart of the programme. Centering on these activities, you will learn about engineering in general and you will also acquire practical experience during your work placements. You will graduate from the Aeronautical Engineering programme as a Bachelor of Engineering in the broad field of the aircraft and space industry. Outside this industry, you will be able to work as an engineer in research and development departments, construction companies and, for example, the automotive industry and maritime industry.
During your programme, you will develop engineering knowledge and you will also learn how to work with the various computer, drawing and test programs used in the aircraft and manufacturing industry. You will learn to apply this knowledge, as well as a developed understanding of maths and mechanics, to practical assignments, such as designing, developing, researching and testing systems.
Inholland University of Applied Sciences Delft works closely with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). You will be able to make full use of the facilities available at TU Delft. For example, in the first two years, you will use their wind tunnels and a whole range of aircraft components.
Programme content
There are two components this programme:
- your major
- specialisations.
The major is the core of the programme and will account for half of your studies. This is where you will acquire your general professional knowledge and skills. The specialisations allow you to tailor the final two years to your personal ambitions.
Specialisations are available in:
- Design and Development
- Lightweight Structures
You will immerse yourself in the industry through excursions and company visits. Already in the second year you will go on a work placement. In the third year you do a specialisation
internship.
.From the first year, you will be introduced to the following subjects: aircraft systems; mechanics; mathematics; measurement and control engineering; aerodynamics; materials science ;production engineering; communication skills.
In addition to these subjects there will be various practical assignments and workshops, on themes such as: design/CAD; measurement engineering; wind tunnels; materials; workshop practice.
You will work intensively on projects and large assignments. A few examples are: aircraft selection project. elevator control project and a systems assignment
Progression
The university doesn't currently offer a related Masters programme, taught through English, though there may be options to progress to a programme at T.U. Delft
Entry Requirements
2 A/S Levels and 4 GCSEs [to inc. Maths] OR relevant BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. Subjects to include Maths and Physics
Five subjects at Leaving Certificate (minimum 200 points) OR relevant QQI/FETAC Level 5. Subjects to include Maths and Physics
